Day 5, 6, 7, & 8: Need to remember

I need to remember to do this blog or i will have to play catch up like I am today

Day 5 & 6 where on Saturday and Sunday which I really enjoyed. I went to the beach, the aquarium and the Maritime Museum on Saturday (Day 5) and on sunday (day 6) i just went to church and relaxed.

I will post my pictures up on day 9 (tomorrow) of what i did on Day 5

Day 7 (June 6 2011): This really was an off day for me I felt like I could not do anything like i was suppose to and felt very awkward. I blame it on my phone dying during the night and then sleeping more than what i was suppose to. Things like that always make me feel like the day has gone wrong. Luckily, I wasn't to busy in the chamber that day.

Day 8 (Today, June 7): Was a productive and good day or so I feel. (My alarm went off so thats always a good thing). Today I went to a committee for the Chamber Banquet, a City Hall Meeting and i got to see the chamber give an award for business of the month

I also went and played Bum-co today (I'm positive thats not how you spell it...but thats the closet i'll get right now) and I was doing pretty good for a while ...but i did have fun.

Day 3 & 4

So, Day 3 was all about typing and Day 4 all about meetings

Today, June 3, I attended two meeting and then went back to the office an the then went to a youth leadership graduation...

Yesterday, June 2, I typed so much, I don't think i have ever typed so much. (Maybe the reason this blog is short)

So happy its Friday i get to rest and see Rockport-Fulton. But, I am looking forward to all the thing I will be doing next week. Some how I like being busy. =)

Day 2: the visitor center

So today, June 1, was day two in my so far wonderful internship in the Rockport-Fulton chamber of commerce. Today I got to see how a chamber of commerce visitor/call center works in a small town like Rockport Texas. At first I felt completely clueless and had no idea what to tell the people that came in and were calling. Fortunately, there were these wonderful ladies, the chamber of commerce "charmers", and I got to see and pick up some information from them on how to help the people visiting the chamber of commerce.
Most people wanted to know what do in the Rockport-Fulton area and I helped them get information on the Maritime Museum, The Bay Education center, and the Fulton Mansion among other thing (most of which I still haven't seen but looking forward to getting to know). Then some other people asked for directions which I am not really able to give being that I am not familiar to the Rockport Area, but luckily most people asked where the beach was and I was able to tell them that. It was a slow day for visitors in the chamber of commerce but it seemed like the rest of the people were very busy.

In some other news I got to skype with family back home and I miss them but I am still very glad i got to the opportunity to do this internship

First Day

My name is Carla M. Villegas, I'm 20 years old and I attend Sam Houston State University. I am a Sociology major psychology minor. When I first heard that the Sociology department in Sam Houston was offering a Texas Rural Internship I was super excited to be apart of it and was even more excited when I found out that I was chosen to be in Rockport, Texas. One reason why I am so excited is that this internship will give me the chance to gain some much needed experience and what better place to do it in such a town as pretty as Rockport is. I will be in Rockport-Fulton from May 31 through August 3.
Today, May 31, was my first day here in the Rockport-Fulton area, and I have to admit I was pretty nervous. But my nervousness faded away when as i met the friendly people here in the Rockport-Fulton area. The way I first noticed this was, when I was looking for the Chamber of Commerce Building. I was completely lost (mostly because mapquest gave me bad directions) but as I stopped and asked a few people how to get to the Chamber of Commerce building everyone that I asked stopped, was really polite and nice, and they tried to help me to the best of their ability. As the day went on everyone continued to be nice and making me feel comfortable
Today I got to meet some of the people here in the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, see some of the Rockport-Fulton area. I also attended a interesting Leadership course meeting for some high school students. I also saw KUNG- FU PANDA...2 in the local movie theater. It was bring your own bowl day; something I wish they had in Houston (so i wouldn't have to pay for the overpriced popcorn). Tomorrow, June 1, will be my first day for real work here in Rockport and I am very excited!
